Please provide a full traceback since I suspect it's a hidden ImportError.
models.get_app("mailer") only throws ImproperlyConfigured, no ImportError.
Please also understand why this was changed to use Django's app cache
(get_app): Although django-mailer (or
another module called "mailer") is on the PYTHONPATH it should only be used
if in INSTALLED_APPS.
