John,

There are a number of ways to accomplish this and it is really a
function of how much time and money you want to spend, aesthetic value
required, etc. At the inexpensive end, Delta makes 6 mil black opaque
plastic sheeting that comes in 4' X16' rolls. B&H Photo
(wwww.bhphoto.com) carries several brands and it is about $23 a roll.,
stretch it over the window and fasten down. Quick, cheap and ugly! From
there you could fashion custom-fitting drywall inserts with .5" X 3"
wooden trim around the outside as a light trap or sandwiched black foam
core would also work. I think you get the idea.

I have built two complete darkrooms in the past 4 years...and a book
that I found to be extremely valuable is "The New Darkroom Handbook"
written by JoeDemaio, Robin Worth & Dennis Curtin. Amazon sells it for
$24.49
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0240802608/qid=1010263244/sr=8-1/
ref=sr_8_3_1/104-0732950-1035164 but you may also be able to pick it up
used. This book easily saved me 40-50 hours of work and is one of the
best I have seen out there. It provides details in every area...light
traps, wiring, ventilation, plumbing, .....

Good luck and let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Subject: [pinhole-discussion] darkening the darkroom

Hello all.
I'm going to make my (unfinished) basement
darkroom-ready and I'm wondering how folks might have
made windows in their darkrooms lightproof. (There
are 8 windows in mine). It seems as though it is
still much easier to deal with the windows than to
construct a room-within-a-room down there.
Suggestions, please?
Best regards,
John Ptak
