We only have 0.13.x packages available for 9.04. For 13.1 you need very recent builds for gstreamer and python-gst. In theory it's supposed to warn you about this, not crash, but in any case, even the PPA releases of the above are probably too old for 0.13.x on ubuntu 8.10. I would recommend updating, because installing gstreamer from source is a pain. We are not really maintaining pitivi on older releases of ubuntu.
