To me, it feels like the expertise is not necessarily in choosing the container and codec formats (indeed, I kinda trust youtube and vimeo and others who document the "best formats"). I think the problem is figuring out the optimal rendering settings/all those little switches to optimize the rendering quality... I, for one, don't understand half of the stuff that's in the advanced codecs settings, or if they need to be changed from the defaults at all...
