Hey list; I was looking through the documentation online about installing PiTiVi and I didn't find a lot about VA-API. I'm guessing that this list has seen its share of installation experiences and may be willing to render a little advice.
So I picked up this new computer (AMD64) with the intention of editing video under Ubuntu. Throw in an ATI 5850 for some horsepower and things should be great, theoretically. You have to search around a lot online I discovered before you begin to put together a picture of what va-api, gstreamer, ffmpeg etc are and how they interelate. I eventually downloaded and installed the latest ATI Catalyst driver (irrelevant to 2D I think), as well as the va-api stuff at http://www.splitted-desktop.com/~gbeauchesne/ : libva, xvba-video, mplayer-vaapi, and gstreamer-vaapi That struck me as the right approach to take to get a gstreamer-based program off the ground. PiTiVi had to be it, as the other guys use some architecture that doesn't support these cards. So how do I go about fixing the following errors? * When I drag an h264.mov video onto PiTiVi it says "No packages with the requested plugins found. The requested plugins are: video/x-vaapi-surface-encoder" * When I drag an AVCHD .mts video onto PiTiVi it says: ---------------------------------------------------- URI:00045-9CE13D9B.MTS Problem:An internal error occurred while analyzing this file: Internal data flow error. Extra information:gstbasesrc.c(2550): gst_base_src_loop (): /GstPipelineiscoverer-file:///media/Data/Media/Video/20101227_ScienceCentre/00045-9CE13D9B.MTS/GstFileSrc:src-file:///media/Data/Media/Video/20101227_ScienceCentre/00045-9CE13D9B.MTS: streaming task paused, reason not-negotiated (-4) ----------------------------------------------------- * When I drag an ordinary Vegas-rendered .avi into it, it appears in the media library but the sound plays without video when you play the clip. Thanks for any help you can provide, and for putting time in to support this great project. -- Todd Howe - Sapere Aude >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Assert your right to communications privacy: Encrypt!
