Pam, I take cortef but it is because my pituitary no longer works. I have to set my clock 2 hours before arising to be able to get up and function every morning. Before this I have gotten out of bed and sat in a chair in the bathroom attempting to brush my teeth for an hour or more. I was a zombie, getting up at 5 am but not taking my medicine until about 9, until my doctor discovered what was happening. I was supposed to be at work by 8 but never made it on time. I would have to sit down between my car and office, which was not a long walk. If I forget my afternoon dosage my husband reminds me when my vocabulary disappears. I can't concentrate or think of the words I want to use. My insufficient adrenal function has really affected my cognitive ability (I've always gotten confused differentiating between affect and effect - "before" and "after" pituitary failure). However, even with the medication I am nothing like I was "before". I am very surprised that your doctor prescribed this for you if you without insufficient function. I would think it is just as dangerous to have "too much". Is he/she monitoring your levels? Have you felt any different? Mine is always immediate (within an hour of dosage)? Let us know the outcome!
