Not necessarily.  Has your doctor (a gynecologist?) run any tests at all...checking for certain hormones?  How old are you?  I didn't have any kind of period at all for years and my doctor always related it to being active...since I ran track & cross country.  When I went to an actual gynecologist this guy told me the same thing...even though I literally did not have a period for 7 years straight.  He ran no blood work...just gave me progesterone & birth control pills....which did start my period.  However I went off of those and I stopped again.  So then I went to see a woman gynecologist and gave her my life story....she about flipped.  She ran all kinds of hormone tests...turns out I have a prolactinoma...a pit. tumor that causes the release of excess prolactin in my blood.  So my body acts as though it's pregnant.  If your doctor hasn't run any kind of tests I would either tell them too immediately or get a new doctor.  Hope this helps!!
