Estradiol is a form of estrogen. I don't know why he'd specifically want that hormone checked, as it is not a pitutiary hormone, but an ovarian hormone. Did you mention this to your endocrinologist? What did he say?
 
It is common to measure estradiol as part of a complete hormonal work-up.
 
If you have had surgery, your surgeon may be suggesting your endo check your female homones, as they are important and should not be overlooked in your endocrine studies.
