When I inquired about drugs to shrink, I was told the first line with acromegaly is surgical removal..  It;s also in all the literature I've read.  It was explained to me that the tumor had to be debaulked, if levels didn;t come down, sandostatin would then be started (somavert was not available yet).  My surgeon said that starting sandostatin was like throwing drops of water on a fire, it would not be effective.
