I wanted to take a moment and let you know what we have noticed since Jason had his first shot of Sandostatin LAR. So far everything looks pretty good. The problems with his wrists have improved. He only complains about numbness about every 3rd or 4th day. This is compared to both hands being totally numb every morning before the shot. His hands and feet look much better, but he still wakes up with swelling across his forehead. This worries me because he is such a handsome young man. He is still having a very hard time with one of his kneecaps, and he may end up having to deal with surgery to move the darn thing. That in itself is a nasty surgery without having to have a pituitary tumor removed. Otherwise, I do feel optimistic that the growth hormone levels are decreasing and he is responding to the medicine. He will have his second shot next week. He is a lot less worried about the shot now that he knows what to expect. My husband and I have bribed him with a very cool dual sport dirt bike. Our deal is that he will go to the doctors appointments cheerfully, or at least agreeably :), and he gets to use the bike. He was feeling so picked on we decided that we wanted to give him something that would make him feel better. Actually, my daughter was the one that wanted us to do something special for him. So yes, we resorted to bribery. I want him to have a positive frame of mind going into his senior year of high school. So hopefully, picking up the bike tomorrow will give him a great boost.
