If I understand your symptoms, I think I have the same type eye symptoms. My first episode which was years ago and was the worst. My vision turned almost totally into a geometric wavy pattern. It was like wavy lines and between each line there was a different color. My FP said it was an aura without the migraine.
I've timed them and they last from 15-20minutes.
I didn't have any problems for years until I started getting steriod injections for leg/back pain about four years ago. I haven't had any steroids for two years and still occasionally have these episodes so I don't know if the steroids had anything to do with them.. I still think they could be associated with my pituitary gland or ESS.
I have two types of episodes.. My vision is totally a wavy line geometric pattern and the lines separate different colors. With those I can't see real vision images. The other type my normal vision stays but has a geometric type pattern with wavy lines that seem to have a watery fluid in them and there is no additional colors to my vision..
I had one a few months ago while I was just getting on the highway. It was the type that I could still see but my vision had a geometric pattern to it with wavy lines through my vision. I had just gotten on the highway so had to keep going but, I stayed calm and was able to continue driving and it also went away after about 15 minutes.
I can't tell if it's one or both eyes. All I know is if I close either eye the pattern is still there. The first episode I must have had some normal in one eye because I was able to get to the second floor of the hospital where my nurse manager's office was to tell her I couldn't see and had to get someone to take over my patients.
If it had totally effected both eyes I don't think I would have been able to walk anywhere that day because the pattern was almost totally blocking any normal images.
When they started up again about 4 years ago I thought I'd better go to the opthamologist considerieng my daughter has MS I thought I should have a thorough eye exam as hers was diagnosed from optic neuritis. I knew it wasn't optic neuritis but I still felt I should have my eyes checked.
The opthamologist thoroughly checked my eyes and confirmed my FP's original diagnosis of an aura without the migraines. At the time I knew nothing about my thyroid or pituitary probblems.
I still myself wonder if this couldn't have something to do with my flattened pituitary gland and my microadenoma. I've also had my peripheral vision checked since finding out about my pituitary problem and that was normal. But, I think it's time for another since I started with right eye pain. I hate those peripheral vision tests. I wonder if anyone else has pain in their eyes days after having this test.
Just thought I'd let you know you aren't alone and we're not crazy!
I do think anyone that has symptoms should be checked by an opthamologist as Marty suggested. I'm having a new MRI after a year and a half to check the area they think there is a tumor. My hormone levels are low but normal so no doctor is doing anyting about the tumor.
I still think it good to compare symptoms so thanks for puitting this on the forum.
