Surgery or not?

Thanks, everyone, for your advice. I will make an appointment to go see an ophthalmologist, and I'm also going to see a ear/nose/throat doctor about my surgery options (the neurosurgeon recommended this).

I think my doctor started me on bromocriptine because it is cheaper and covered by my insurance. I'm doing okay on it. This weekend I increased my dose to one half tablet twice a day, and it didn't make me feel any additional side effects. I often feel tired, light-headed and occasionally depressed, but I'm not sure if that's really an effect of the medicine. I've been really busy lately (just started vet school!) so I might just be tired from that.

So I'm still leaning toward getting the surgery, just so I don't have to take the bromocriptine for the next 2 years and probably beyond. I just want to make sure I don't have to take any more drugs for awhile (at least a few years) after the surgery. Do any of you know how often the tumors will grow back? My neurosurgeon said that prolactinomas grow back more often that other pituitary tumors. And do you know how long the recovery period is for the transsphenoid surgery? My neurosurgeon also said that the surgery becomes a little harder after you take the medicine for a few years because the tumor gets more fibrous from scar tissue. I'm not sure if I should let that guide my decision...

Anyway, thanks again for all your input! It's great having such a supportive messageboard. Dealing with this stuff isn't easy!
