Hospital admission for ambulatory clinical pituitary endocrine testing is pretty much unheard of nowadays (insurance companies would have a fit) ![]() but, if any of you would like to look at the National Institutes of Health for a Research Protocol, please check them out! How recent are the gold standard articles? I'd be interested in the titles so I could check them out? ![]() True, on the things that can cause mild prolactin increases. Good points...also need to stress that different labs use different reference ranges. If you have a macroadenoma, your endo may have you do MRI's more frequently to see if your medications are working. ![]() I remember a prominent endo stating that the pen can be mighter than the "sword" meaning the surgeons knife. I had mildly elevated prolactin and had Cushings.. lol, so it is very good of you to make points that mildly elevated prolactin isn't just about prolactinomas - lol There are also such things as mixed tumors. We recently had a poster who had a quote "non-functioning tumor" who had pathology that showed a mixed-PR/GH tumor. I guess since PR was mildly elevated the assumption was that the tumor was NF and it never crossed the physicians mind to consider that it just might be a mixed tumor - never-the-less a hormone functioning tumor.
