Judy, My tumor returned a year after my initial surgery. It was a GH secreting tumor. I initially began sandostatin injections to control the GH levels. It worked. They couldn't do another surgery because it was too close to the optic nerve. I was told that radiation would be the prefferred method to cure me, but the tumor was too small to aim precisely aim the radiation at it. They fnally decided to radiate the tumor anyways, feeling confident that they would be precise. I wa not a candidate for Gamma knife radiation because of the location in regards to the optic nerve. I did a lot of research and decided to go to Mass General, for Proton Radiation. That was this summer, and I still have nad no results. I had very little side effects during the radiation. The only bad thing, my head hurts really bad now. Doctors aren't sure if it is from the radiation or not. Mark |
