Pituitary patients find it hard to believe that it is possible to have surgery and be out and about the next day...it is possible, if you go to the right surgeon!! I also had that experience in March of 2000. Dr. Shahinian at Cedars Sinai removed my 2.2cm+ tumor out on Wednesday and on Thursday I was at the movies. Not every surgeon can do this...it does make a big difference who someone goes to. The best part, I am 5 years clean and my tumor was larger than what the radiologist thought. When Shahinian went in there and looked around he found more tumor that had grown out of the sella tursica laying along the brain. He said that if he had used the old transphenoidal technique that he would not have found all the tumor. With surgeons staying on top of the latest techniques (mine was fully endoscopic) pituitary patients are out sooner with better results. Anyone wanting more information can call me at 541-757-9663.
