I agree with Minnie that it is early to be worried but a proper time to start thinking about what the possibilities could be, and one possibility is a pituitary tumor. So much has happened over the last few decades for pituitary tumor patients, that a diagnosis of a tumor is not the kind of difficulty that it used to be.

Usually a MRI is ordered to see if there is a sign of a tumor. There are different kinds of pituitary tumors that can elevate the prolactin level to your level. One is a prolactinoma that actually produces prolactin, another is a non functioning tumor (not producing any hormone at a significant level) growing in such a way that it is putting pressure on the pituitary and the pressure is resulting in the elevated prolactin level.

If a tumor is found on the MRI, it is probably a non functioning tumor...that was my case. It is not a well know fact, but prolactin levels under 200 that are caused by a pituitary tumor, are usually due to pressure, not a prolactinoma. To put your mind at ease, I had a large non functioning tumor removed and the next day I was at the movies. This was not possible even 6 years ago, I was the first patient to get out of the hospital that quickly and that was March of 2000. Now you hear that story by many.

Once you know what the facts are in your case, you can take the next step. You are already showing that you are interested in collecting information, that will help you make good choices for yourself. If you do find out you have a pituitary tumor you can call me, 541-757-9663. Jean in Oregon
