Restrictions after surgery

Tobetty, Sorry I did not mean to offend you but I really am curious. No one told me about the restrictions before my surgery either. I bent over to put my slippers on in the hospital and the aide just about split her gut leaping over the bed yelling "DON'T DO THAT!". The endo nurse had mentioned about don't lift anything heavier than a phone book after the surgery but it was like pulling teeth to find out what the restriction were per the neurosurgeon. I finally asked the neurosurgery resident what the restrictions were when he was making rounds. He then asked me what I thought the restrictions were. I don't know what he was thinking. We ended up playing 20 questions until I finally go the correct restrictions: Do not bend over, do not lift more than 20 pounds, sneeze through your mouth not your nose. Someone else in the forum mentioned sleeping with his/her head propped up. I have a very physical job and going into this had a negative effect on my work. I thought that I would be off about 2 weeks which is what I arranged with my job but actually needed 6 weeks to return to heavy lifting. I think that this thread could help others in the same situation as your friend and me - not realizing that there are restrictions after the surgery  that need to be followed or it could have negative effects on our recovery.
