Hello all. I thought I would stop by and share all the new one the latest on the after effects of Bill's surgery. On November 3, 2005 he had his pituitary gland removed. Things have been going fairly well. His IGF-1 levels about 4 weeks after surgery were in the low 400 range and the endo said that wasn't really unexpected as it hadn't been that long since the surgery. Well last week he had blood drawn and we got the results today. His level is down to 284! The endo is hoping this will come down even farther but is pleased with it so far. We did learn more today about the pathology report however and it's kinda wierd. I don't know why I expected different because Bill always has to be differnt. :) Anyhow, in addition to the one small tumor that was found (this makes 3 total including the 2 removed in the previous surgery) is was discovered that his pituitary cells were secreting GHRH locally which was driving up his GH levels ect ect. So not only does he have Acromegaly, he has Neurogenic Acromegaly apparently. The report was done by one of the top pituitary pathologist, a Dr. Mahlon Johnson who is currently working at UT Memorial where Bill had his surgery. His info is here...http://gsm.utmck.edu/pathology/faculty/johnson.htm.
Apparently he is very interested in Bill's condition and has discussed it with his endo extensively. Bill has had some weight gain since the surgery that  is a concern but we are going to work on that. Also they are going to check him next week by having him not drink anything after 11pm one night and going in and having a urine test the next morning. There's the possibility that he may have partial diabetes insipidus so we are going to check that out. Anyway, so not a bad report overall. Hope everyone is doing well.
