Conventional radiotherapy can affect the tips of the temporal lobe which have an important role in memory and facial recognition. Unilateral damage is usually compensated for by the opposite side but bilateral damage is a problem. They try to shield the vulnerable areas, but the temporal lobes are particularly vulnerable if your tumor had invaded the cavenous sinus. My endo has been discussing conventional radiotherapy as an option as my remaining tumor does not show up on my MRI. My elevated IGF-1 indicates that there are functioning tumor cells left. I've decided to wait until the tumor actually presents itself then consider cyberknife or BEAM.
