I had my surgery on Jan. 5 at the UVA. It was performed by Dr. Laws. Things went well and I was out of the hospital in 2 days. I was told to stop taking my Androgel for 8 weeks to see if my body would start producing it on its own. 2 weeks out from surgery, I had to start using it again because I just couldn't function. I had no energy to go up the stairs. I felt weak in my muscles and so on. I was also told to keep on my prednisone because my Cortisol level was still low. I was ok with realizing I might have to take these 2 drugs the rest of my life. I thought "Gee if I can get away that easy, I will be happy." That was before my MRI on 2/20.
I have an appointment with Dr. Laws on 3/1. I picked up my MRI films and a copy of the report on Weds. afternoon to take to Dr. Laws since he is in a different state than I. I opened up the report and read it and I about fell out of my car. This is the line that got me: "Enhancing soft tissue is shown within the sphenoid presumed to represent a postoperative packing." I rushed home and pulled out the new MRI plus the June 2005 MRI that I had done and started comparing them. I found the same view and angles from both MRI's of the sphenoid sinus and low and behold there is this bright white "thing" in the back of the sinus cavity and it has a point on it.
On Friday morning I got up with a bad headache behind my right eye like someone was stabbing me with an ice pick. for me, this is usually indicative of a sinus infection. I called my family doctor and made an appointment. I saw him yesterday afternoon and took a copy of the report along for his files. He took one look at it and said "You had an sinus infection 3 weeks ago." I said I had and that for 3 days I had nasty stuff draining down the back of my throat that tasted like the nasty stuff from an absessed tooth. He shook his head in disbelief and prescribed Augmentin 875mg 2x a day till I see Dr. Laws. I just can't believe this is happening. On top of that, my Pituitary is still enlarged on the right side and looks really strange as well on the MRI. I am holding out that this is normal, but as for the packing, I think it will be a long 5 days till I see him. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I know things like this happen from time to time, but why me? |
