I had the same problem many years ago when I had my first colonoscopy. I had to do the gallon thing. What happens is that your stomach can only hold so much - some people can hold more than others. Once your stomach is full there is no place for the stuff to go so you get nauseated and dispell the excess (The polite way of saying it). I also was unable to get it all down but was able to have a successful test. There are 2 other ways of doing this. I now use a form that only requires you to drink a soda can worth of the stuff. It is still gross but doable. There is also a pill. According to the GI guy, the gallon works best followed by the soda can size. He states that the pill is not effective.
