Linda, I had Gamma Knife procedure back in Jan 2002 and my non-functioning tumor has been resolved. This was my second attempt to get rid of the little "SOB". I had my first surgery in June 1994 and it seems they did not get the whole thing, I had the Gamma Knife procedure at University of Virginia and I was fifty-five at the time. I arrived at the hospital on Friday morning and by Friday evening I was back in my room. At the time the most difficult part was putting on the halo on my head because this is used to keep your head still during the procedure.. The whole procedure of radiation took about ninty minutes. I was very comfortable during the procedure, you are put into a large tube similar to a MRI. The next day we left for home (New Jersey) and I was able to drive about three hours. Monday I was in work and it was like spending a week-end away. I heard there is a cyberknife procedure (no need for halo) that you should check out. Since, then I am only on two meds synthyroid and testestorne replacement. My currend endo is concerned that I could end up lose all my pituitary functions, a possibility but not she is not certain. Where ever you go and what procedure you have try to get as much informaiton about it and ask many questions. Remember, this is your pituitrary tumor and it is your body. Make sure you understand ALL the pros and cons of every procedure. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them on this site or through my email. Take care and good luck. Fred |
