sorry I just got back to reading this. I was fortunate in that my neurosurgeon has done around 600 pituitary tumours, pretty experienced lol. She said she got all that she could see. There could be cells left that she couldn't see. We knew going in that she might not get it all. I had the surgery on the thursday. I was up and walking around and eating by that evening. and looking for an internet hookup the next morning lol. Stabbing pains behind and around one eye lasted off and on for a few days. She did the upper lip method, rather than through the nostril. I think they actually have to break some bones and move the nose itself out of the way doing it this method but it is her perfered. She used an operating microscope rather than an endoxcope because of the stereo vision rather than mono vision. I seem to be recovering well. I feel good. My upper lip, two front teeth and gums are still numb, my nose and ujpper lip area arfe extremely owie still. I have seen the oto laryngologist and I am healing well, not much crusting. the incision under my lip is bothersome. it feels totally bizarre and I do not have much range of motion in my lip. Every day during my hpspital stay they did some hormonal blood tests, checking for cortisol levels and diabetis insepitis. Absolutely no signs of diabetis but my cortisol levels are off (they never were before) and will need further testing. They were over 200 but not ever over 500, whatever that means. I see the neuro-surgeon on Aug 2. I have a followup MRI in 3 months. I have an appt with my endocrinologist to redo all my IGF-1 and GH levels and another one at the clinic to test the cortisol. The aching seems to have disappeared, except for the occasional aching in my fingers. that is the best thing yet and makes it all worthwhile. I find I am tired a lot and nap during the day, although this week has been better. I don't know if the napping is because I can't use my cpap machine or from the surgery. I tried to use the machine but my nose was in serious pain in the morning, so no more until it is healed. thanks for all the information! and well-wishes! suzanne |
