I am in the same situation, and it is very hard. I don't know anybody where I live. I had two close friends here, but both died within two weeks of each other about two months ago. I also live in a very dangerous neighborhood where it is safer not to know the neighbors -- if you are sick you are prey. I have absolutely no family left alive, and no support system at all. I have no insurance, and I am using my life savings to stay alive. I cannot drive to out of town appts and have to pay a home health care agency, usually about $125, for rides. Any illness is much harder to deal with when you are socially isolated, but this one, which has such a strong emotional component anyway, is really tough. |
