Are Allergies and Hormones Connected?

I was diagnosed last October with a 10mm prolactinoma but I have had increasing allergies through the years. My endo thinks I probably went undiagnosed with my pit tumor for at least 10 years so there could be a link with my allergies. I developed outdoor/seasonal allergies about 15 years ago and I developed an allergy to nickel and formaldehyde about 7 years ago. Oddly, my allergy to nickel is only to eating foods with high levels of nickel in it (i.e. chocolate, nuts, seafood). I can touch nickel and not have a reaction. My nickel allergy is severe. My formaldehyde allergy is more annoying than anything at this point. The two things that have formaldehyde that I react to are newspaper ink and rubber glue. If I touch them, my hands get really itchy and inflamed. I have also become allergic to cats in the last 3 years. On a slightly different but somewhat related topic, my asthma has gotten worse over the past 10 years as well. I read somewhere that there are studies being conducted on the correlation of asthma and hormones but I don't think any of the studies have been published. My asthma is partially allergy related so perhaps that is the connection.
I'd be interested in hearing any findings on this. |
