Hello, my name is Laura and I am 28 years old. I was recently diagnosed with an 8mm tumor in my pituitary gland. I was misdiagnosed by 3 doctors until I questioned one of them about my blood work. I asked to know the excact numbers and I looked up online what the normal should be. I was tested for prolactin levels in Janurary and April of this year. They kept rising any my test in April showed a prolactin level of 69. When I questioned the doc, she said I was, "Slightly elevated and its nothing to worry about" I didn't really like this since I hadn't had a period in a year, was lactating, and was unable to get pregnant. I have 2 boys and always seemed to get pregnant very easily. One doctor I spoke to when I told them I was lactating just shrugged and said they didn't know. One doctor put me on provera to start my period. I bled while on medicine, but it never came back on its own. Totally frustrated by this point, I did my own research and asked my doc to refer me to an endocrinologist. When I saw him I told him I researched so many things and I think I might have a pituitray tumor. After going over my medical record and all my symptoms, he said I may have pinpointed my own problem and sent me to get an MRI. Sure enough, there was the tumor smack dab in the middle of the gland. They started me on bromocriptine, and I took it a month. My blood pressure dropped pretty low and I was fatigued all the time. I switched to the generic brand of Dostinex and started today. This board has been great and I am glad I can relate to a lot of people here who are going through the same things. sorry this post was so long........ |
