Hi,
I have a non-secreting tumor that I live with since the last 4 years. At first when the doctors found out they wanted to operate. The first MRI was showing 1.8cm tumor. Two months prior my schedule surgery, the MRI showed a reduce tumor to 1.5cm. So, we are now doing the wait and watch thing. I have MRI once a year. The second year the MRI showed 1.8cm, the third one showed 1.7cm and now last month it is at 1.9cm. Now my surgeon which is not a specialist in pituitary tumor (I think he had only 1 patient that he operated on) but I talked with Dr. Laws and he told me he was an excellent surgeon.
All my hormones test are normal except prolactine which is always between 70 to 90. They don't want to give me any medication as they say it won't work since it is a non-fonctionning tumor and this is why my prolactine is low. My visit last month with this surgeon, resulted as if next year (July 2007) my tumor still increase, I will need surgery.
Yesterday, I saw my endo with the result of all my blood test which was normal except prolactine (78) told me that she agrees with my surgeon for a surgery next year if my tumor grow BUT SHE ALSO TOLD ME THAT MY PIT WILL NEED TO COME OUT (she said it is in the middle and chances are that my surgeon will need to remove it and I will need to take replacement hormones for the rest of my life). THIS IS SCARING ME!!
I am from Montreal, but I am willing to go anywhere in the United States to meet the best and have the right time.
PLEASE I NEED help as I don't know what to think and what to do anymore. Are they right? Is everybody that had surgery had their pit take out?
Hope to find some answers here and confort. Thanks for your time and help, Francine |
