Everyone's tumor is different and the only way to determine risk of surgery is to talk to a Neurosurgeon that specializes in Pit tumors to determine size, location and current condition of the gland. What the surgeon says can say a lot. As far as medications go, there are program through the manufactures where you can get medication at a discount or near free. There are a lot more things to consider other then other peoples experience. Of course other's experiences are going to play a big role when you make your decision but you really may want to know the where's and size not to mention what the neurologist feels s/he can do. They are the one's who really know if your husbands tumor is something they have had experience with. Someone may do really well with a prolactinoma removal and another person not do as well but the size and location may have been the determining factor, you never know. Also, I am currently doing research for my dissertation which happens to be on Quality of Life and Pit tumors, I just read a peer review study regarding prolactinoma's not necessarily needing medication for life. I have read other studies where the blanket treatment plans for the different type of tumors is going out the door and tumors are being treated as individualized as their carriers-:) So treatment are changing and developing-:) I am sure you are going through an entire gamut of emotions that I cannot begin to understand only because I am the one who has the tumor and it is different for our partners who have to sit by and go through what you are going through. I cannot even imagine what you are going through. I am sure it would be very difficult if it were my husband or my son. I would most likely feel completely helpless.
