Hi, Congratulations on getting your growth hormone! I took growth hormone as a
small child to finish growing when it was still experimental and have just
restarted taking it at age 42 after badgering my endo for several years about
all the gh deficiency symptoms I've been suffering from (bone density loss,
fatigue, excess fat in the abdomen, inability to exercise/build muscle, etc.)
After taking 2 (expensive) tests to prove to my health insurance that I don't
produce any on my own, they approved coverage and I, like yourself was
thrilled. My doctor wrote up the prescription and I went to the hospital
pharmacy to pick it up as the Walmart pharmacy in my town claims to not have it
or the ability to carry it for me. Much to my shock when picking it up, I was
told that a 6 week Nutropin dose costs about $1200 which I had to pay for up
front and wait for my insurance to reimburse me. But that wasn't the worst-I
was expecting it to be covered on my pharmacy plan which I usually make a small
co-payment ($10-20) on when filling a prescription and the insurance pays for
the rest, but I was disappointed to find out that it wasn't covered on my
pharmacy plan but is covered on my medical plan which means each year I have to
pay the $500 deductible, then after that they pay approximately 70-80% and I
pay the rest-yikes! I've been on it for 4 months now and have decided that my
health and well-being is worth the expense. So far, I haven't noticed any side
effects or changes at all. Some research that I've read says that it shows
quicker and more noticable results for people with adult-onset gh deficiency,
where people such as myself with childhood onset gh deficiency may not notice
much change in the first 6-12 months although it is still believed to be
beneficial in the long-run for bone density, heart health, muscle mass, etc.
for those of us who've been growth hormone deficient for most of our lives.
Keep me posted on how it goes for you and best of luck to you! Lynelle
