Hi - My name is Dawn; I'm a 35yo SAHM in the suburbs of Chicago. I was
diagnosed this week with a pituitary macroadenoma. I have been referred to a
neurosurgeon in Chicago but am looking for recommendations as well. Can anyone
here recommend a good (and experienced) pituitary neurosurgeon in the Chicago
area? We had been looking at Rush, Loyola, UIC, UofC, and Northwestern. The doc
recommended to me is at Rush (Lorenzo Munoz is his name). I also am feeling
like I've been kindof lucky - I haven't had years of problems that went
misunderstood or misdiagnosed. Is that more the norm? I have had headaches for
a long time that I finally got annoyed about and told my PCP; he ordered a
contrast MRI to look for vascular problems but instead they found the adenoma.
I now realize I have other symptoms that may be related to the tumor (joint
pain, sweating, spotty vision, etc.). From what I've read so far, I almost feel
like I'm coming in the side door to a party (that I wasn't planning to attend).
I really appreciate any suggestions. I'm feeling very lost about how to find
a good specialist; my youngest son needed a specialist last year and we were
lucky to have friends who could recommend someone who was great at the hospital
we wanted to take him to. But I have no idea how to find out details about
neurosurgeons and the only recommendations I have so far are for two
neurologists and a second "yeah, he's good" for the guy my doc referred me to.
 TIA, Dawn in IL
