Double vision was the first indication of my pit tumor. There are two vision
areas that can be damaged by the tumor. If it grows up it impinges on the optic
nerve leading to viual field loss (usually perpheral vision) and possibly
blindness. If the tumor grows sideways it can enter the cavernous sinus. The
nerves that control eye movement are located there and the result is double
vision. The cavernous sinus is a tricky area since it is full of blood vessels.
Sometimes the tumor does come out of the area but if tumor is left radiation is
needed to kill the residual tumor. The earlier that the tumor is removed from
this area the better. I just had cyber knife this summer to remove the residual
tumor that was causing double vision. Unfortunately, there has been no
significant change in my vision though it has not gotten worse.
