A friend of mine is a nurse, but for the past couple of years she has been
having a lot of issues (and subsequently left work for an extended period of
time). Initially, they thought she had MS, but just recently they found it to
be a dural AV fistula - an extra blood vessel linking an artery and vein of the
spine - it causes pressure on the nerves, and circulatory congestion and ALL of
the symptoms she's been having. They are now looking for the problem to
operate and fix it. The point here is what she said about this experience:
"My illness seems to be a random thing, but it's helped me find a place that I
really enjoy working, and has shown me the fear, helpless/powerless feeling
that my patients can get. It's made me better - OK, GOD, LESSON LEARNED
ALREADY!!!" I'm positive she is a better nurse for having went through this
experience... not that I would wish such illness on anyone, but your comment
hits the nail on the head mommyof8. = )
