I located this list of side effects at http://www.us.sandostatin.com/index.jsp.
"As with immediate release Sandostatin® Injection, the most frequently
reported drug-related adverse events were biliary disorders (52%),
gastrointestinal disorders (7% to 36%), and injection-site pain (2% to 11%).
Hypoglycemia (2%), hyperglycemia (15%), and hypothyroidism (2%) have been
reported. While not measured in acromegalic patients receiving Sandostatin LAR®
Depot, ECG changes have been reported in patients receiving immediate release
Sandostatin® Injection; the degree to which these abnormalities are related to
octreotide acetate is not clear, as many acromegalics have cardiovascular
disease. " But this list does not seem to be complete. I was on Sandostatin
LAR and my hair fell out. The endo seemed to be familiar with this side effect
though it was not listed. Sandostatin LAR was not effective in controlling my
GH level and I changed to somavert which has been effective. I am concerned
that you were without treatment for 10 years. Acrtomegaly can be fatal - the
excessive growth hormone can do a number on your heart. Even though you may not
be having overt signs of problems nasty things could be happening that do not
show up until it is too late. Have you had cardiac testing? Have you had
regular colonoscopies to check for colon cancer?
