----------------------------------------------------------- New Message on Pituitary Chat
----------------------------------------------------------- From: Willard1H Message 2 in Discussion Hi, gal young'un Martha, This ol' Southern boy is sure affected by Apathy Syndrome (AS). But struggling with it? I dunno... maybe I'm just sagging or wallowing in it! My stack of mail is inches deep. Dusting? Maybe not quite as thick a layer. I take my pills, but has trouble keeping up with the bills. Whatever... Apathy Syndrome is a favorite topic on mine in several message threads, ever since March 2008 when we discussed in in the thread, Support Group says Pituitary Chat board is too depressing, with several great links. I called Tina's AS revelation (Message 7) "pure gold" in my Message 10, and Neville agreed that the scientific paper is a "wonderful read." In message 12 of that March discussion, GreenDharma said she is under treatment for Apathy Syndrome. She took a copy of theat science study to her medical team, and "I took the paper found from the link on this site (thankyouthankyouthankyou) to my medical team and I started therapy and I improved drastically, I am so much better." For anyone interested, here's the link to that paper from Message 19, Apathy and Pituitary Disease: It Has Nothing to Do With Depression. In Message 22, Anita urges you to have your thyroid tested, since that can be related and contribute to AS problems. [True -- my doc has me on meds for hypothyroidism.] Message 22 also pertains to AS problems, and possible treatment with nutritional supplements. If you want to see how Apathy has been discussed on Pit Chat, click on MinnieChat's "Message Search" in the blue sidebar to the left of this text. In the Pituitary Chat Mail Archive, you can search for every use of the word "apathy." Excellent resource! Looks like we've looked into AS on the current Suicide discussion; Apathy vs. Depression (March 2007, found in that mail archive); and a few other threads. Maybe enough of us will join in, that this discussion can last a long time. I want to check into the current status of AS -- I think I saw somewhere that in the neuropsychiatry community, the doctors promoting Apathy as a distinct disorder, may be losing the battle against more powerful faction who refuses to separate it from Depression (!!).
