I think a portion of any cost, whether it be insurance premiums or care costs could be set aside for research. I believe that the lions share of reseach money is through private foundations, pharma, national group fundraisers, i.e. the race for the cure, pink ribbon program and federal grants meted out through the NIH. I also don't believe that the medical providers should be paid any less than they should be, but with out the profit motive for insurers, I hope the savings would be substantial. I think there are many solutions, with many different options and we need to consider everything.
