Going out of leecher mode to give my opinion (for what it is worth! not much, I fear...).
It might seem an heresy, but not everybody uses Eclipse.
Well, I do, daily at job, and even at home, but I do most of my coding with my lightweight, fast (even if not as smart) editor (SciTE, if you are curious). And some people are even using NetBeans or, if wealthy, IntelliJ or some other exotic IDEs... So an old fashioned book of rules is still useful (although in general I just look around and try to imitate existing code).

I've been using 80. More might be better, but 120 might be too much -
not sure yet. I'd want to play around with it and see what that looks
like.

Funnily, I had the same thoughts and have set up my right margin on 100 characters. 80 is a bit small for Java and its long identifiers, 120 seems a bit too much for my taste (but still OK I think).

Just my €0.02...
