As I said, they are not required to build or run the source and therefore don't belong in a source artifact, IMO. I don't really want to remove them from SVN, since they should be part of the overall project history. I don't see why it is a big deal to remove them from the 1.2 tag - we did the same thing for the Eclipse project files.
