I'll try to explain better: looking at this http://images.apple.com/ipodnano/features/images/fitness_run_go200909.png you can see a background of the main window with a (little, vertical) gradient, and over a container (with some labels inside) that is only partially transparent so I'll have a merge between two backgrounds (my container, and the application container under) depending on the % of transparency chosen.
