Package: devscripts
Version: 2.10.66
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

according to http://wiki.debian.org/DEHS, uscan automatically drops any
"dfsg", "debian", or "ds" suffixes from the debian version (or rather
the upstream part of the debian version). It also states that packages
should rely on this behaviour, but should instead explicitly mangle the
version themselves.

However, it is currently quite impossible to actually test if the watch
file contains the right mangle line. Even if you screw up, the implicit
mangling will still remove the suffix, so the explicit mangling looks
correct.

Please add some way (e.g., a commandline option) to disable this
implicit mangling. As an added bonux, such an option would also document
the implicit mangling in the manpage, which is currently not the case.

Gr.

Matthijs
