Although dpkg-buildpackage supports -S and -nc together, debuild does not.
It reports the following error:
debuild: fatal error at line 903:
cannot combine dpkg-buildpackage options -S and -b
The dpkg-buildpackage manpage says:
-nc Do not clean the source tree (implies -b if nothing else has been
selected among -B, -A or -S).
Since debuild is a front-end for dpkg-buildpackage, it should have the same
semantics.
Although it may seem like a good idea always to clean the tree before making a
source package, some buggy packages leave some minor crud behind after a clean.
Also, for a big package, cleaning may take significant time.
