Yeah, there are a handful of packages that are either in addition to, or in replacement of, packages from the WOS. They're the ones in GNOME_PKGS, INSTALL_PKGS, SLIM_PKGS, and FOX_PKGS. I don't know where they might be available outside Sun, unless you wanted to reconstruct them from an Indiana image. :) Perhaps the folks on install-discuss can give you pointers there. With some luck, the changes we needed from those bits will get folded into the WOS relatively quickly, but I've no idea what the timeframe might be.
