FWIW, Bart and I had a conversation in the hallway the other day about these methods and a few other related ones, and agreed that it's kind of a confusing mess that needs some lovin'. I haven't had (and won't have in the immediate future) a chance to think about this, so if someone else wants to think about or even draft up a design for a small set of (probably generic) methods on images and fmris to do all the kind of fmri matching we need, please do so. Otherwise, one of us will fix it once it really becomes too painful. :)
