FWIW, I can reproduce the stack trace if I set http_proxy to "webcache.eng:8080" -- i.e., without the leading "http://";. I can add that to bug 305 (looks like when 1214 was closed as a dup of 305, the relevant information wasn't transferred, so a normal search for the stack doesn't find it). If you have any information about the network problem that caused this, too, let us know.
