I have a 38694318 byte file here (emacs-22.2.tar.gz) and both /usr/bin/ls -lh and /usr/gnu/bin/ls -lh both report it as "37M". If you work it out, they're both using 1024*1024 for a megabyte. If they used 1000*1000 it would mean they'd report 38 instead. So using these funny units would not be consistent with existing OpenSolaris tools.
