It's about making it easier for developers to get their scripts working
right, by knowing your script is always running in the target environment,
without having to add all sorts of special cases for "Am I running my
Solaris Nevada package postinstall script on Solaris 8 because Live
Upgrade is being used?", "Am I running my x86 package postinstall script
on a SPARC machine because a diskless server is being set up?", and a
whole bunch of other special cases (many more for packages included
in the OS than unbundled ones, until some admin tries to include your
unbundled package in their jumpstart profile).
