We've gotten two reports of this bug today. Both filers noted that the GUI
was hung, so they killed it, which left them with a truncated catalog.pkl
file, and after that, everything was screwed up. It's easy to work around
-- just remove the file -- but we should be more careful about both reading
and writing it.
