This afternoon, we rolled out the latest revision of the depot software (not the *contents* but the depot server software) onto our public repositories. This is the most user-visible depot software upgrade since we switched to the CherryPy web framework some months ago.
Thanks to much hard work by Shawn (and many others, especially Brad and Brock) this has come together really nicely. You can take a look at http://pkg.opensolaris.org/release or http://pkg.opensolaris.org/dev . In particular, there is now a search feature, and the listing of packages has been moved off of the main page and onto a child page, and is much more useful. The whole thing has been spruced up considerably, and represents the foundation of something we can build upon in the coming months. I would encourage depot maintainers to plan to update their depots to this new version in the near future. We're running revision 9dc32300ea3c at present. And of course, your participation (via pkg-discuss) is invited. I also want to remind you that you should update your authority settings to reflect your preference about using release or development bits. Stephen previously mentioned this but I thought it bore repeating: Stable: $ pfexec pkg set-authority \ -O http://pkg.opensolaris.org/release opensolaris.org Development (of 2009.whatever): $ pfexec pkg set-authority \ -O http://pkg.opensolaris.org/dev opensolaris.org For now, the two branches are 100% identical. They are likely to diverge before the end of 2008. If you are currently connected to http://pkg.opensolaris.org (with no /release or /dev), you will, as of the release of 2008.11, be placed on the /release branch. In the next several months we plan to decommision http://pkg.opensolaris.org (with no /release or /dev) and put up some informational content at this URL (like a guide to finding and using repos), so eventually the old-style URL will stop working and you will need to update. -dp -- Daniel Price - Solaris Kernel Engineering - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - blogs.sun.com/dp _______________________________________________ pkg-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-discuss
