Is the broadcom name here indicative of the company or of the chipset name? I ask because what happens when some other entity buys out broadcom and decided to rebrand the identical chipsets (therefore using the same driver) with their own name? > SUNW1394 -> 'driver/ieee1394' > Sun IEEE1394 Framework What if another entity wishes to deliver a supplemental ieee1394 driver framework? How is a user to determine which is the "core" system one, and which is one that was produced by someone else. Or, put another way, do you intend that parties other than Sun use the same namespace and conventions for their packages? > SUNWPython -> 'system/python2' > The Python interpreter, libraries and utilities How do we intend to deal with delivery and installation of multiple versions of Python (which will likely be necessary)? In other words, will this be system/python2.4, system/python2.5, etc. ? The same applies for perl. > SUNWPython-extra -> 'library/python2/extra' > Supplemental Python libraries and utilities How do you envision modules packaged and tested for a specific version of Python being named (e.g. delivered for 2.4, but not 2.5, etc.)? The same applies for perl. > SUNWbrltty -> 'feature/brltty' > Braille support Why not braille-tty or braille/tty? > SUNWcar -> 'platform/prerequisite/i86pc' > Core Architecture The meaning of "prerequisite" isn't immediately clear to me. > SUNWcfcl -> 'system/library/storage/fibre-channel' > Common Fibre Channel HBA API Library > SUNWcfpl -> 'service/storage/fibre_channel' > fp cfgadm plug-in library Why is this one fibre_channel while the other is fibre-channel? > SUNWsolnm -> 'release/base' > Solaris Naming Enabler This is probably out of scope, but: This package only contains /etc/release. Bad description. Otherwise, this looks so much better than what we have now.
