Currently pkg(5) tools and Update Center2 project are only capable of
listing all packages regardless of whether they are intended to be very
prominently displayed to end users or are simply libraries and such for
these main features. This features only view is something UC2 project
would like to have.

Working from a "distro assembler"[1] point of view, we could create
dependency packages with custom attributes for this and then our UIs
could work with those attributes. However

1) the attributes approach does not give these distro assembler any
higher privileges over any other package publisher in defining this
    meta-view
2) the approach feels wasteful and littering when tagging just a single
    package as a feature.

Is this something IPS team has thought of before? My tech hammer is
just thinking of the more-metadata-in-depotd-post-package-publishing
nail. So I'm requesting your input on how best to address this problem.

* [1] Please excuse my use of the term distro here which conflicts with
the prevalent use in assembling *nix distros. I hope my meaning is
       clear from the problem description.

Thanks
Manpreet
