24x24 is the preferred size. If the image is larger than 24x24 then it
will be reduced to 24x24 size but if it smaller
then will be displayed with original size.
Then this should be called pkg.icon.24px or some such. There's really
no excuse to not support a range of sizes so that things can be
scaled nicely on displays which support it, and 'scalable' should be one
of the options, given the increasing prevalance of SVG.
Agreed. Since 24px is the preferred size and some other GUI client like
package manager might look
for a different size , is the 24px in pkg.icon.24px needed.

fits into the naming conventions there? [1]
Yes, it looks like this attribute fits in.
* What image formats are to be supported? (png, etc.)
Any bitmap type.
Seriously? You support X Window Dump format? BMP?
Nikon RAW files? Macintosh PICTs?
I think it'd be a lot better to constrain this to a
small, well known list, rather than rely on whatever
underlying image library gnome is using.
BMP , GIF , JPEG, PNG , PCX , PNM, TIFF, TGA , XPM, ICO -windows icon file.
Does this list looks good. Do you think anything must be added to it or
removed from it.
